While there are no known side effects from taking hoodia, the indigenous San Bushmen claim hoodia is also an aphrodisiac. The most heralded use of hoodia by the African bushman is an appetite suppressant, but they also employ it as a thirst quencher. The San consume hoodia to stop abdominal cramps, apply Xhoba for hemorrhoids, and drink hoodia tea for indigestion. The San Bushman also use hoodia for hypertension and diabetes and even for tuberculosis.
